Ukulele Lessons in January/February

INTRO TO UKE, PART 1

In this 4 session class, you’ll learn the core fundamentals needed to be get jump-started on the ukulele.  After you’re shown how to properly hold the uke, a pick, and position your arms and hands, learn some basic chords, you’ll strum through some familiar, beginner-friendly songs.

All you’ll need to bring is a soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele (no baritone ukes, please, as they’re tuned quite differently).  All instructional materials will be provided. 

Note: If you don’t have a uke and need help finding one at a reasonable price, you can contact the instructor for suggestions (but do so at least 2 weeks before the first class)

  • Times: 2:00-3:00 P.M. for ages 13+, 4:00-5:00 P.M. for ages 10-13, 6:30-7:30 P.M. for ages 13+
  • Location: Nichols Community Center
  • Fee: $115.00 (includes 20 page booklet of essential info, chord practice, and chord charts to easy-to-play songs)

  • Note: Minimum Enrollment is 3, Maximum is 15

INTRO TO UKE, PART 2

This class will pick up where Part 1 left off.  You’ll learn to play several more classic, timeless songs of different genres and eras, learn some new strumming patterns that will add rhythmic interest and variety to your playing and get to know some new chords.  All you’ll need to bring is a soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele (no baritone ukes, please, as they’re tuned quite differently). and a guitar capo or ukulele capo   All instructional materials will be provided.  Please note that this class is also appropriate for those who know at least 7 basic chords on the ukulele and can transition from chord to chord.  For more info, contact the instructor at info@jeffsaxonmusic.com.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Locally-based and critically-acclaimed indie ukulele recording artist, Jeff Saxon, is currently teaching a series of beginner-friendly uke classes at various Parks and Recreation departments.  He’s previously taught uke, guitar, and songwriting classes at a number of colleges and music schools in WA, CA, and NJ.  He also conducts uke workshops at libraries and is a highly-rated private uke instructor.  Jeff’s all-original, multi-genre 2018 album, The Ukulele Project, was praised in UKE, Great Britain’s pre-eminent ukulele magazine as well as by Uke Planet, who described the songs and recording as “simply magnificent.”
