Saturday May 18, 2013 is the 11th annual “Gardens of Fox Island” tour. This is an island event and five of your neighbors invite you to tour their gardens.
Springtime in five island gardens filled with color and scent: a sunny high-bank specimen garden; a wooded, south-facing garden with a huge water view; a smaller perennial garden which co-exists with a deer throughway; an old Fox Island garden with lush established shrubs and perennials on its salt-water point, and an evolving formal garden, with a cottage flair, that includes its own beehive.
The tour is from 10-5 and starts at the historic Nichols Center. Tickets for box lunches will be sold by “The Chapel on Echo Bay.” You can pick your lunch up at the Chapel and enjoy the beautiful gardens and waterfront setting. They will be raising money for another wonderful old structure that is being saved and restored where year round concerts and other events are held. Topping off the Nichols Center events, there will be garden theme vendors. Take home a new plant, garden item, metal garden art, or maybe a work of art by one of our local artisans!
In the afternoon, visit the Fox Island Museum and have tea and cookies from 1 to 4. The Fox Island Museum is featuring an exhibit of the “Puget Sound Misquito Fleet.” These little boats brought food, mail, people and all things needed for people living on the islands.
All the proceeds from the “Garden Tour” stay right here on the island and are distributed equally between the Chapel, Museum and FICRA.
Gardens of Fox Island tickets are $15, tour starts at the Nichols Center at 9th and Gway on Fox Island. A map showing the historic buildings and all the gardens with descriptions can be picked up starting at 10AM and tour ends at 5PM.
