 November has arrived and with it the chill of Fall is officially here on the Island. Did you know that according to the 2010 Census, there are 1,384 households on Fox Island (that’s 3,633 Islanders, with over 700 kids under 18!). FICRA’s email newsletter reaches less than 15% of those folks. FICRA would like to reach out to more Islanders!  info@FICRA.org As a reminder, everyone who owns land on Fox Island is a member of FICRA. Dues are only $25.00 and are due January 1st for the 2012 year. We truly appreciate your support; your dues are what help keep the Nichols Center warm and clean, the Playground safe, the Nature Center open and help us put on events and activities for Islanders of all ages. Little Gobblins Invade the Nichols Center!  The FICRA Decorated Pumpkin Contest and Halloween Party was a great event! Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and decked the Nichols Center in its finest Halloween decor and to the kids, parents and grandparents who dressed

FICRA Board Meeting: Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30 – Coffee Social starts at 7:00 Just a reminder, the November Board meeting will be Thursday, November 3rd at the Nichols Community Center (690 9th Avenue). The meeting starts at 7:30, with a coffee social beginning at 7:00. Come early and meet with your neighbors! A free-will donation for coffee and cookies is appreciated. |

Astronomy Night back by Popular Demand! Sunday, November 13th at 7:00 
FICRA is happy to have Terry Mace and his friends back at the Nichols Community Center, hosting another fun and entertaining Astronomy Night. This event was a huge success last August. With the stars and planets now  in different positions, the night sky will have a whole new look. Guests at the first event said seeing the solar system like this was one of the most amazing things they had seen.
If the weather cooperates, Terry and his friends will bring the telescopes (HUGE telescopes) and FICRA supplies the coffee and hot cocoa. Dress warmly! If the weather looks to be a bit too cloudy and rainy, there are plans to show an amazing film and have some great question and answer time. More info will be available soon on the FICRA blog. Forum with the WA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00 This information has been listed in a few of our FICRA Flash newsletters, but we would like to make sure that all Islanders who want to attend this forum are aware of date and time. FICRA is pleased to have set a forum date with WA State Dept. of  Fish and Wildlife Biologist Tammy Schmidt for Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 at the Nichols Community Center. She will be giving a 45 minute presentation on “Living with Wildlife” to our community. We are also very happy to have Matt Stevens from the USDA coming as well. Mr. Stevens has over 20 years of experience with coyotes. Thank you to Sue Supplee for getting in contact with Mr. Stevens!
FICRA has been in contact with Fish and Wildlife for many months regarding our Island coyote population. We hope this forum will be a benefit for everyone with concerns about coyotes. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. We will continue to keep Islanders posted as we learn more. Children’s Holiday Art Class: 2 Part class on November 18th and 19th Fox Island Artists Karen Craven and Lia Craven will be leading a wonderful art class for  children this November. The Art class will be in two sessions, Friday Nov.18 from 4:30pm-6pm and Saturday Nov. 19 10am-12 noon. It will be open to children 6 thru 12 yrs.
Children will be experimenting with acrylic paints, making cards and gift tags for the holidays, wrapping paper and learning to mold and weave tree decorations. A fee of $15 to cover supplies is asked. There is a limit of the number of children for this class, so please register with Karen at cravenly@comcast.net |

Ongoing Events at the Nichols Center
Check out what’s happening all month! * Tuesday Morning Mom & Me from 10-11:30 – Come to the fun and free Mom and Me (or Dads, grandmas and grandspa’s, too) class. This event is for children ages 4 and under. It’s a wonderful time for your kiddos to have a social and learning experience while you get to meet other Fox Islanders. Thru November! * Wednesday Morning Guys’ Coffee from 9:00 – 11:00 ALL Island guys, of all ages, are welcome!  This is a FICRA sponsored event with the sole purpose of bringing neighbors together over a hot cup of coffee, just like the good old days! A “pass-the-hat” donation for help with the cost of snacks is appreciated. * Game Night! Don’t start thinking this is a bunch of grumpy solitaire players! Join in Game Night at 7:00 on the last Friday of every month for a great time. Trivia Nights have been tremendous fun for all ages. Bring your own beverage and snack (or full picnic spread, as we have seen done!) A dollar donation is appreciated for the prizes. *This month, Game Night falls just after Thanksgiving. It will be announced soon what the plans for this evening will be (it may just be that we all sit at home, stuffed, in front of the tv!)
