Fox Island Nature Center Committee Meeting Minutes
3 November 2016
Attendees: Ed Burrough, Philip Craven, Thomas Mann, and Terry Mace.
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Old Business:
- Ed reviewed the work accomplishments in October. We trimmed back vegetation along the trails and dug and hauled out more Himalaya Blackberries.
- The Committee discussed a variety of ideas of plant identification signs. Options considered were name signs on select plants or select plants with numbers corresponding to numbered descriptions on a brochure available at the entrance. Ed will choose some candidate plants for labels and discussion will continue. Mace will try to obtain a realtor’s plastic information holder to house the Nature Center brochure.
- Philip and Thomas will install split cedar steps on the wet portion of the lower western loop on 21 November.
New Business
- Jim Braden approached Ed about an article on the Nature Center for the “Fox Island Living” magazine. Ed had written a draft of a possible article and the committee, after reading the text, discussed additions/changes. We will forward additional comments to Ed over the next ten days.
- We discussed plants to order from the up-coming native plant sale. While no complete list was made, we agreed that shade trees or shrubs for along the road and a tree atop the mound on the left of the entrance would be on the list.
- Philip will contact Jim Braden to inquire about the possibility of seeking a donation of the land between the Nature Center and the FICRA ball fields in order to create a corridor between the two properties.
