Greetings!

Greetings Fox Islanders! January ended on a great note with theOlympics From FI Annual Wine and Cheese Night and we are looking forward to Frebruary events and activities. The Gettin’ Foxy Spa Night is really taking off!

We are so pleased our membership is increasing and we want more people to join FICRA. Please encourage your friend and neighbors to join FICRA today! We all know how busy life gets, but let’s not forget what makes this island great. Make some time to just stay on the island. Isn’t it nice when you don’t even have to go across the bridge? Go to Game Night on a Friday night, Mom & Me on Tuesdays or Men’s Coffee on Wednesday mornings. Don’t just head to Tacoma or Seattle for entertainment. Check out what concerts or events are happening right here on the island. We are so lucky to have the Nichols Community Center available for all of us to enjoy. You may have noticed the fresh planting beds in the front of the building. We want to thank Island Rock and Water for the generous donation of equipment and expert crew who helped us to enlarge the beds, move plants away from the building and prepare for more plants.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

What exactly is FICRA?

Have you ever wondering “What IS FICRA?” FICRA is aNCC Gazebo recreational organization that helps to maintain the Nichols Community Center, The Fox Island Playground and the Nature Center. This organization is managed entirely by volunteers and is overseen by the FICRA Board of Directors. We encourage groups or individuals to commit their time, talents, or money to the maintenance or improvement of the building and green spaces owned by the FICRA Building Trust. Groups can also get involved with funding or volunteering in a recreational activity or special event. The entire community is welcome to get involved, including youth groups, businesses, and individuals. If you or someone you know is interested in a volunteer project, please email FICRA at info@ficra.org.  We look forward to working with you all!

Thank You Girl Scout Volunteers!

GSThank you to Gig Harbor Girl Scout Troop 40145 for their excellent volunteer service on Saturday, January 28th. The Girl Scout troop, made up of Kopachuck Middle School students, did a fantastic job and their hard work is much appreciated. The Scouts spent a lot of time cleaning up branches from our recent windstorm, raking brush into piles, weeding, restacking the woodpile and they even helped with trash pick up around the playground. The girls also helped FICRA take down the Christmas Tree leftover from our Tree Lighting Event. The troop is welcome to come back to do more volunteer community service projects with FICRA. Our grounds look neat and tidy thanks to these young volunteers. It was great to have it looking so nice before that evening’s Wine and Cheese Event!

Great Job Fox Island FICRA Members & Volunteers – Wine & Cheese Night a Great Success!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support FICRA on Saturday for our 2nd Annual Wine & Cheese Event. We welcomed many new members! The schoolhouse was packed and a good time was had by all. The building was beautifully decorated for the party, the food was tasty, and the wine flowed! Our auctioneers were so entertaining and the aucition proceeds will go to the FICRA Building Trust. Thank you for your support!

Come inside the old schoolhouse and see restored chalkboard slate in the classrooms and the newly hung historical photographs.  Generous donations from islanders have helped make these Spruce Up projects possible. Our entry hallway has been re-plastered and a fresh coat of paint really sets off the beautifully built entry table.

Take a look at some pictures and a slideshow from the event:

The Good Lovlies at the Chapel on Echo Bay!

Friday, February 3rd at 8:00 pm

***  THIS FRIDAY!  ***

The Good Lovelies will appear live in concert at the Chapel on Echo Bay, on Friday, February 3 at 8:00pm. The Good Lovlies are not your run-of-the mill “all girl” band. At a time when too many of us are affected by gloom, doom and recovering from recession, these three women are the perfect antidote. Winners of the 2010 Juno-Roots Album of the Year (Group) and New Emerging Artists Award from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Good Lovelies are making waves across Canada and the US.

Described as folk-roots and western swing, the Toronto-based trio rely on unerring three-part vocal harmonies, clever songs and, onstage, convulsively funny repartee. Check them out here:

The Good Lovelies ‘Lie Down’ music video

The Chapel on Echo Bay is proud to present this exciting trio as part of our Music by the Bay series, now in its 8th year. The Chapel is a 111-year-old venue located on Fox Island, and is owned by a community-based nonprofit board of directors.

Tickets for this concert can be purchased by calling 549.7039 or emailing ChapelonEchoBay@comcast.net, and are just $30 each. Chapel members are invited to our Meet the Artists receptions following the concert (memberships are tax-deductible and are also available). For more info., please click on the Chapel events page: Chapel Events

Crime Watch

FICRA’s Crime Watch site is on FICRA’s new website, www.FICRA.org
Crime Watch page is here: CRIME WATCH
Or call the Crime Watch Hotline: 253-549-7744
During the months of November and December, Fox Island saw an increase in burglaries and attempted burglaries, as well as vandalism to the Nichols Center and the Chapel on Echo Bay. If you know anything about these incidences, please contact FICRA and the authorities. For past reports, please click: Past Reports

Did you know that the FICRA Crime Watch Citizen’s Patrol offers vacant house monitoring?  If you plan to be away and would like them to drive by periodically and check your house, please contact info@FICRA.org

We thank you for your continued support of this great Island asset. It costs FICRA over $8000.00 a year to fund Crime Watch and the hiring of off-duty officers to help patrol our community and aid in keeping it safe. With increased donations from Islanders, we would be able to fund more patrols and continue with crime prevention on the Island. Through donations and the incredible work of dedicated volunteers, we are able to keep this great Island asset going, thank you! Crime Watch is in need of more people to help, if you would like to volunteer, please contact us at info@ficra.org
