Greetings!

Beach PumpkinFICRA is fortunate to have many new volunteers this year! There has been a lot of activity at the old schoolhouse lately.

You may have noticed the extensive drainage work going on around the exterior of the building. An overgrown Rhododendron was removed and thanks to the garden clubs, plans in the works for new landscaping. New downspouts have been added along with the several loads of gravel that were donated to FICRA this summer to increase the parking area. We now have more handicapped parking and easier access to the ramp for those who need it. New silverware and cups have been donated to the community center kitchen and there are new clocks on the walls. New slate has been purchased to replace the missing blackboard slate in one of the classrooms. We can’t wait to have it cut and put in place.  We are very excited to watch the old schoolhouse continue to shine.  Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project for the Island Community.

Community Center Fall 2011

FICRA always welcomes more volunteers! If you would like to volunteer to help “spruce up” the Nichols Community Center or you have an idea for an event, please email FICRA today at info@FICRA.org! Donations for the old schoolhouse “Spruce Up Project” can be made to the FICRA Building Trust.

Each week there are many events that happen at the Community Center, please check our calendar to find out more.

FICRA is pleased to have set a forum date with WA State Dept. ofWA Fish and WL Fish and Wildlife Biologist Tammy Schmidt for Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 at the Nichols Community Center.  She will be giving a 45 minute presentation on “Living with Wildlife” to our community.  We are also very happy to have Matt Stevens from the USDA coming as well. Mr. Stevens has over 20 years of experience with coyotes. Thank you to Sue Supplee for getting in contact with Mr. Stevens!

We will continue to keep Islanders posted as we learn more.  Fish and Wildlife has asked us to continue to direct people to their website regarding coyotes

Children’s Handprint Flag Flyin’ at
The Nichols Center
The wonderful 6 foot by 4 foot United States flag that was created by the “handy work” of Fox Island Children and their friends is now at home on the old Schoolhouse stage at the Nichols Center.

Flag Hands

So many Island children had a part in creating this flag during the 2011 FICRA Fair and we are proud to see it “flying” in our auditorium for others to enjoy for years to come.
