FICRA Board Meeting Minutes 8-4-2011

FICRA BOARD MEETING
August 4, 2011

Board members present were Lynne Goodwin, Max Ostner and Tony Moore.
Board members absent were Jean Peterson and Mimi Miller.

President, Lynne Goodwin, opened the meeting at 7:32 with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes were read by Max Ostner.  They were approved as amended.

Lynne gave her president’s report on activities and meetings that have occurred and will occur during the month.  She commented on the success of the recent Ice Cream Social held at the NCC, as well as the success of the recent free exercise classes held by Angelina at the NCC.  She noted the Fair planning was in full swing.  She mentioned the recent installation of the new Nectar Bumble Bee toy on the playground and the underground Drainage line replacement  on the back half of the building.  She thanked all the volunteers that helped folding newsletters and who have helped organize the Fair.  She put a call out for more volunteers to help at the Fair.

Committee reports:

Crime Watch:
Stan Weston gave crime watch report.  Increase in crime on Fox Island.  The Sheriff’s report indicates that there have been 7 burglaries and 8 vandalisms from January through the end of June.  Stan advised that residents be sure to keep there houses locked and to be more aware.  One resident indicated that her mailbox was knocked over on Bella Bella by vandals.  She was encouraged to report such incidents to Crimewatch so that other residents could be aware.

Building:
Tony reported that all bids were in on the insulation.  Tom Purvis and Tony Moore have started work on the Drainage on the back side of the Community Center to catch water from down spouts in a tight-pipe and run across property to low part on north part of property.
Tony reported on the oil leak cleanup that has resumed around the building heating oil tank.  He has talked with the insurance company and informed them that we are getting the oily dirt hauled off and properly disposed.  The hole by the oil tank will be filled in by the Fair.  Mike Gordon asked how much will the Trust be liable for oil cleanup?  Tony indicated this is an issue to be worked out with the insurance company as our coverage includes oil spills.

Deann Cline reported for the Building Interior is in the process of being spruced up and more donations are needed.

Activities:
Karen Craven reported that Terry Mace and friends will host an Astronomy Night at the NCC on Sunday the 7th of August at 8:30.  There will be 4 telescopes for viewing the stars.
August 9th and 11th Angelina will hold two more free exercise classes at the NCC.
August 28th there will be a Clothes Swap for kids clothes at the NCC.
September 10th will be the Island Wide Garage Sale.  More details to come.

Karen expressed that she needs more committee members.

Nature Center:
Philip Craven reported that the Nature Center has been getting lots of attention.  Committee members and volunteers have been busy keeping the trails cleared.  He noted that there are partially temporary and partially permanent logs over some wet parts of the trail.  The Nature Center will be ready for tours during the Fair.  There will prizes if you get back alive!

Bylaws:
Tony reported for Jim Braden that WAACO has approved FICRA’s application and has put a call out to any attorney affiliated with WAACO who would be willing to donate their time.  We are hopeful we can get help to answer our questions.

Playground:
Lynne reported that Nectar the Bumble Bee has been installed on the playground and that Pen Met will be sending our grant money in a week or so.

No unfinished business

New Business:
Garage sale will be coordinated by Max.  He will post info shortly so people can start signing up.  We will have signups at Fair booth.  It was noted that all profits go to help Crime Watch.

FICRA FAIR:
Lynne reported that Fair planning moving along nicely.  We need more volunteers to help with setup, operation and cleanup.  She noted that we have about 70 vendors, a nice variety of vendors.  There will be 4 food vendors.  A local Jazz band Arletta Sound will perform from 11-1.  She noted we need more volunteers for specific areas:  Beer Garden, Crime Watch booth, FICRA booth, people to sell raffle tickets for raffle room items.
Booth layout will be figured out Friday the 5th and all details will be emailed to vendors.  Vendors can set up Friday from 6-8PM.
Museum will be holding the book sale at the Museum this year.

Dave McHugh Asked who was in charge of the Bridge Sign and it was noted that Karen Craven was in charge.

Tony Moore noted that the phone books were at the printers and would be ready to distribute at the Fair.

Next meeting is September 1st.
